What Is That Stuff Fluoride?
Fluoride is a very important, naturally occuring mineral that prevents tooth decay. Now, many cities fluoridate their water. Some people, however, disapprove of adding fluoride into drinking water. I believe that this is because though the fluoride prevents tooth decay, it also leaves a brown stain on teeth. Many people have discovered how to prevent tooth decay and stop the teeth from staining. Even though the staining has been stopped, I still believe that some people are nervous about the once stained teeth.
I have a very strong position on adding fluoride into our everyday drinking water. I think that we should add fluoride into our drinking water. Even if the fluoride will leave a brown stain on my teeth, I would rather still have teeth rather that losing them. The fluoride will help keep our teeth strong and healthy. It will also reduce the chances of losing our teeth. The brown teeth won’t effect our community as much as not having teeth at all.
There were many technological advances before society decided to add fluoride into our everyday toothpaste. In the 18th century, people rubbed burnt bread against their teeth and some even put dragons lood, cinnamon, and alum into a bowl and made a paste out of it to rub on their teeth. In the 19th century, society began using natural ingredients such as honey, green sage, strawberries, and myrrh. Thirdly,in the 20th century, people began using chlorophyll and eucalyptus on their teeth. Lastly, the toothpate of the 1990s included fluoride as well as flavoring and color. As the world became more intelligent, we began to make adjustments to our toothpaste. However, we still used some of the same ingredients.
One of the worst side effects of fluoridated water that I would personally be the most worried about is cancer. Even though cancer from fluoridated water has never been assured in the human race, it has been caught in rats and other live animals. I am very worried about this side effect because if it begins to infect humans, we could all become very sick!!! Studies have also shown that it can lead to osteoporosis and if there is too much fluoride in the water it can lead to brith defects, kidney disease, and intestinal problems. These are all extremely dangerous side effects, but luckly the fluoride levels in the water has not yet reached that point.
